CROCKETT
17 Years old
15.2/15.3 Hand Gelding
KIDS HORSE DELUXE
GRADE. I dont know his parentage. I rescued him out of a bad situation when he was young.
We have owned him for the last 12 years of his life. He has NOT been passed around. He would not be for sale if we didn't need to purchase hay.
He is the type you DONT sell. He has been used to move cattle. Ranched on some. NO ROPING we have never roped off him. He has been hunting all over the mountains of wyoming. Trails. Trails and more trails. He has been over night camping. Trail/overnight camping with 100+ riders. He has been the main mount for several kids and an older gentleman that is now riding a shorter horse. He is BROKE BROKE. He will neck rein or he will plow rein if that is all the kiddo can do.
He has had 3+ riders on him. He rides bareback. At my previous place I would catch him in the pasture and use him to bring the rest of the horses into the corral. A friend of mine (who is not very horse savy or smart) raced 2 other people while on horses while his 10 year old BEGINNER rider was on Crockett in a HALTER! I was working a young horse and was to far away to intervene. Crockett STOOD THERE in nothing but a halter while THREE riders took off and ran an entire lap around the field. He is that kind of horse.
He will ride for adults but he loves the kids the most. He will ONLY go the speed your kiddo is ready for. He will lope if they are ready and have the right seat. He will trot when they want too. If they can ask. Sometimes you do have to ask more then once because beginners and kids do not always mean to ask.
He's been around dogs, Fourwheelers, Razors, Tractors, skidsteers. Kids! Kids!
I have unloaded him and thrown kids on him with NOTHING on him in the corral while the just walked around on him bareback. I brought a gelding up out of draw at my old place. The gelding I was leading off of Crockett stopped on an incline. I was NOT paying attention, I did NOT have a hold of crocketts lead line. I slide back onto his butt and definitely squeezed where your NOT supposed too. ALL crockett had to do was keep walking. He did not keep walking. He stopped thankfully as I was being yanked backwards by the other horse. He let me get situtated while squeezing where your not supposed too! He let me crawl back up where I belong and then when i told him to go he started walking again. I can tell you NUMEROUS stories about this guy!
He has only ever had shoes on him when we go to Custer and/or the mountains because of the amount of rocks. He will get a little sore in the front if an adult rides him for several days at a time. We haven't had him get sore in several years but we also have only had the occasional adult on him. For the most part we have let him be a kids horse. I did jump on him the other day and ask him to lope off and he did perfectly for me.
He is HONEST. If he is having an off day. Which if you've owned horses and rode enough you know they have them too. He is very vocal about it. He will snort and act "high" strung for HIM. He isnt going to hurt you or anyone else but you KNOW he is having an off day. I can count on ONE hand how many times he has done this. This is not his normal. I am just being 100% honest. Crockett was abused Prior to us having him again we have had him for 12 years! If you come at his face really strong you can get him to react. He will touch you with his nose. and he likes being loved one. ( he does shy more away from men) I've Never seen him do it with the kids. Again this isn't usually behavior but being honest.
